Penicillin Allergy Delabeling - An Antibiotic Stewardship Initiative

These 2 activities are designed for healthcare providers including physicians, pharmacists, infection preventionists or other facility antibiotic stewardship stakeholders.

Part 1: How to Delabel Patients    View Part I

 

Part I includes an update on recent guidelines for addressing penicillin allergy; the benefits of penicillin allergy delabeling; and identifying appropriate candidates for oral amoxicillin challenge. Participants should become familiar with safe and effective ways to delabel patients identified as penicillin allergic who are admitted to the hospital.

Part 2: Case Based Discussion   View Part II   NEW!

Part II is a case based discussion that includes patient selection for penicillin allergy delabeling, how to perform an amoxicillin challenge and manage adverse events, provide patient counseling on penicillin allergy delabeling and ways to implement a penicillin allergy delabeling program.

Abortion Facts and Resources: A Guide for Medical Providers  New!

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Office of Women’s Health offers this training to enhance learners’ knowledge by providing factual evidence on abortion, impacts of abortion access on health and well-being, harms of criminalization, and California resources providers can use to facilitate abortion access for their patients and populations they serve. The training will dispel misinformation about abortion and enables physicians and other healthcare providers to streamline referral processes for patients needing pregnancy options counseling and/or abortion care.

Clinical Recognition and Management of Hepatitis A: Mitigating Outbreaks Among At-Risk Populations in Los Angeles County

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has been responding to an outbreak of hepatitis A among people experiencing homelessness (PEH) and people who use illicit drugs (PWUD) since April 2024. This outbreak has now surpassed the size of the local outbreak among PEH and PWUD that occurred in 2017-2018. This article summarizes the current outbreak and reviews actions clinicians can take to improve the recognition, reporting, management, and prevention of hepatitis A.

Pain Management and the Management of Opioid and/or Other Substance Use Disorders

DPH has created a list of CME opportunities from other organizations to help physicians comply with the Medical Board of California’s CME pain management requirements and the new training requirements for DEA-registered practitioners.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health designates enduring activities with AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.

Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Other learners may receive a Certificate of attendance. According to the California Board of Registered Nursing, Continuing Medical Education is acceptable for meeting RN continuing education requirements, as long as the course is Category 1, and has been taken within the appropriate time frames.
